Matilda the Musical Summer 2023
- All speaking and singing parts will require an accent and unless specified otherwise, all will be British. You do not need to have one prepared for auditions and callbacks.
- Age ranges listed are suggestions, if an actor is older or younger but looks passable as the character’s age, they may be considered.
Matilda Wormwood, F , 8-10yrs, Vocal range: A3-D5
Imaginative young girl who is clever and wise beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched. Small but mighty.
Miss Agatha Trunchbull, M or F, 30s-50s, Vocal Range: A2-G4
Tyrannical headmistress at Matilda’s school who despises children. Although the villain, this role requires a good sense of comedic timing with a big physical presence.
Miss Honey, F, 20s-30s, Vocal Range: F3-D5
Matilda’s kindhearted teacher. Tired of living in fear of Miss Trunchbull, but struggles with finding the strength to stand up for herself and others. Timid, skittish, self-deprecating but sweet as her name.
Mr. Wormwood, M, 30s-40s, Vocal Range: D3-A4
Matilda’s uncaring father. A slimy, greedy, used-car salesman.
Mrs. Wormwood, F, 30s-40s, Vocal Range: A3-F5
Matilda’s self-absorbed, negligent mother and an amateur ballroom dancer.
Michael Wormwood, M, 10-15yrs
Matilda’s older brother. He is not bright and favored by their parents.
Mrs. Phelps, F, 20s-50s
A kind librarian to whom Matilda tells her stories.
Bruce, M, 8-13yrs, Vocal Range: C4-E5
Matilda’s classmate. He is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Trunchbull.
Lavender, F, 8-10yrs
Matilda’s classmate and friend.
The Escapologist, M, 20s-40s, Vocal Range: C3-E4
A character in the story Matilda tells to Mrs. Phelps, who comes to life in their imagination. Grandiose presence, heartfelt character.

Rudolpho, M, 20S-30s, Vocal Range:D#3-A4
Mrs. Wormwood’s eccentric ballroom dance partner.

Mrs. Wormwood’s doctor when she goes into labor with Matilda.

A party entertainer at the start of the show.

The front man of the Russian gang who seeks revenge on Mr. Wormwood.
